Shutdown that Computer - a Firefox Extension

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s not an everyday issue, specially due to some good download managers around. But, once in a while, you just use your browser to download some file (read “big file”) and it will take a few hours, in spite of your fabulous broadband connection. Problem is, it is more than past your usual time for bed or you may want to go out…

One solution is just to leave the computer on. No problems there, except the fact that the download will take 2 hours and you plan to reach the computer only in 7 or 8 hours. Think environment. All that electricity wasted.

The solution, if you use the best browser around that is, is Auto Shutdown, a nice little extension for FireFox.

Basically, what it does, is make use of the Windows shutdown command after the downloads in the list are finished.

It’s simple and functional. It’s compatible with FireFox 1.5 and newer releases and, just in case you want to tweak a bit more, there are a number of options you can change, including the shutdown parameters it uses.

Enjoy…

  1. Very cool. I had no idea that you could do this from a browser extension.

    Thank you for sharing,
