PageRank Update is here… All of it!

In the past few days much talk (maybe too much) as been given to PageRank and how the bigger bloggers out there are being slapped by Google (Problogger even created a nice little contest to honor his “downgrade”). I think the very first one to be noticed by this was Andy Beard. Many reasons have been suggested, from text links sales to gaming Google in other ways.
Whether PageRank is still relevant or not, that is very much open to discussion. Some say that it is still a standard from which advertisers judge the value of a site (thus setting prices for ad space real estate) while others simply dismiss it as a thing of the past without any relevance.
Whatever the case, it seems that Google PageRank is not completely dead as some speculated. In fact, the much (maybe too much again) waited update is rolling and many sites are already looking at the new number (from unranked to 4 on this one).
And the slapping might have been just a tiny little scare, or not… Actually I did not follow the wave and blogged about it because I wanted to see Google’s response. And it seems that this ongoing update is it. Some of the slapped sites are already back to their old PageRank and some even got higher. Probably the remaining ones will follow as soon as the update is complete.
